Beyond Sound Art: The Conversation Between “Sound” and “Tone”

How is sound produced? What’s the difference between “sound” and “tone”? What are we listening to? How does sound become a vital force?

Artist Lou Nengbin’s latest work, “Children of the Ancient Boat Gen2” officially debuted on April 29 at the East Gate of the Taikang Art Museum as part of “The Rehearsal Project: A Solo Exhibition Series.” In this exhibition, the artist has cleverly correlated special data obtained during his illness with the traditional pentatonic scale, transforming the exhibition into a live classical music experience generated by OpenAI architecture.

On the afternoon of May 17, Lou Nengbin, alongside curator Xin Yunpeng, will invite six guests connected to sound for a multidimensional discussion.

From the perspective of sound art evolution, the artist will explore the relationship between “sound” and “tone” and share his motivations and reflections on choosing sound as a creative medium. Guests will delve into the expressions of “sound” and “tone” across different artistic media and discuss the diversity and possibilities of sound in contemporary art.
